Motion estimation and motion compensation(ME/MC)is the core technology oI motion picture coding. A new motion estimation scheme based on a novel matching criterion.Restrictive Conditional Interframe Difference(RCID).is proposed in this paper. The new matching criterion overcomes the shortages of MAID criterion and has the equivalent computing complexity with MAD. The theory analysis and experimental results show the ellectiveness and superiority of RCID criterion.
