    • Researches on Multimedia Technology in China,2010

      摘要:As one of a serial of reports, this paper is a survey on multimedia researches and applications in China, 2010. Since multimedia is a cross research area, papers about multimedia technology are distributed on various journals. We checked 2916 papers published on 9 Chinese journals in 2010, from which we have selected 380 related to multimedia technology and application. Then we made analysis on them and the statistics were compared with those from 2006 to 2009. Considering the new feature of multimedia technology, we make serveral modifications to the categories of the papers for this year in order that the new categories can reflect the situation of multimedia technology in 2010 better and match its developing trend more exactly. Looking into the data, we can find that digital watermarking, multimedia data management and retrieval, multicast, interactive mode and interface, identification using biometrics earn high attention of researchers in China. Meanwhile, multimedia application systems are diversified and intergraded with daily life gradually. We present here an overview on the progress in multimedia technology in China, 2010. This article can be used by researchers as a thoroughly references, and also will be helpful for people in technical planning and management. .

      摘要:Since 2D CAD engineering graphics require high precision, a wavelet domain based reversible watermarking algorithm for 2-Dimensional CAD engineering graphics by using improved quantization index modulation (IQIM) is proposed in this paper. First, all vertices in the 2D CAD engineering graphics are extracted, and then Log-polar Mapping and discrete wavelet transform are done to them respectively to achieve the invariance of affine transform. Finally, the encrypted watermark is embedded into detailed coefficients by using improved quantization index modulation (IQIM) scheme. Experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm has a large capacity, good invisibility, and robust against the attacks such as transformation, rotation, equal scaling etc.

      摘要:A robust video watermarking algorithm based on MPEG-2 video compression standard is proposed, which can be implemented efficiently. By using the mapping relationship between video frames’ block DCT coefficients and the full frame DCT coefficients, the proposed scheme does not need to completely decode the host video in watermark embedding and extraction, and thus reduces the operation cost. Experiments show that the method can effectively resist down-scaling attack and Gaussian white noise contamination and MPEG-2 compression.

    • Image reversible data hiding with modified integer transform

      摘要:In order to realize reversible data hiding in image as well as improve embedding capacity and secrecy, a reversible data hiding method based on modified integer linear transform is proposed. Large capacity secret information can be embedded adaptively in the translated image blocks with less distortion, which is transformed by the modified integer transform introducing less distortion. After transmitted in open channels, the hidden data can be extracted correctly and the host image can be lossless recovered from the marked image. The experimental results show that the proposed method has larger embedding capacity and better secrecy. It can be applied to hiding case history in medical images and also can be used for lossless covert communication in remote sensing images, military images and etc.

      摘要:The CCD cell is equalized as a variable resistance RC integral circuit, the lighting effect on the image is decomposed into pair impact of photoelectric potential and photosensitive resistance. When t>>τ, the illumination affects only the photoelectric potential, otherwise to be adjusted, so that, the parts of low illumination can be restored, the normal and high-light parts can be maintained almost. It can achieve good results, this model is applied to the conventional method of uneven illumination enhancement before.

      摘要:Because of moisture in meat, there would be reflective area in the meat image under visible light, which lead to the loss of some muscle information. In order to improve the accuracy of obtaining meat image’s related information, it is necessary to restore the reflective area as much as possible. Based on the algorithm of image completion by exemplar path, with the feature of meat image, an improved algorithm is presented in this paper. First, replacing Robert operator with Prewitt, so that the LISREL of information lost area get better preserved. Then, by using twice matching method, the amount of scanning data is reduced in the process of searching the best matched block, and the repair time is saved about 2/3 of original algorithm. After that, to eliminate seam effects, adding α-cut Mean Filter in the process of inpainting, it makes the repair results meet the requirements of visual psychology better. The experimental results show that both the inpainting efficiency and effect of improved algorithm are better than the original, and the method can not only repair the reflective area of meat image, but also be useful for other images’ inpainting.

    • Identification of the motion blur direction using spectral property

      摘要:The accurate estimation of the point spread function (PSF) is very important in restoration of motion-blurred image. The uniform linear motion blur PSF is composed of two parameters, namely blur angle(direction) and blur length. However, estimation of the motion-blurred angle is the most important. The motion-blurred direction based on Hough transform, which is proposed by R. Lokhande et al, is improved. The improvement adopts more pretreatments such as edge detection, detect the straight line by Hough transform,and takes advantage of the improved Hough transform peak extraction method to estimate the value of the angle. Experiments show that the method can be more accurate than the original method of angle values, and has anti-noise ability, identification of high precision.

      摘要:The restoration of the image with strong noise has been playing a key role in improving the visual effects of the image, furthermore, enhancing the performance of the image analysis or processing. This paper studied the aperiodic response of the stochastic resonance in the bistable nonlinear system. Then, by using of the multi-directional Hilbert scanning method, the two-dimensional gray image was converted to several one-dimensional and aperiodic signal sequences, which maintained the space correlation of the image pixels. Finally, the restoration of the gray image with strong noise was achieved by using the stochastic resonance synergy of the bistable system image signals and noise. The experimental results showed that the image restoration method based on the stochastic resonance could effectively suppress the noise and make the image recurrent well in detail. Especially in the low SNR cases, this method was obviously superior to the traditional methods of image restoration in the aspects of the SNR improvement and gray hierarchy.

    • Automatic image dehaze using polarization filtering

      摘要:To overcome the degraded images taken in hazy weather, an adaptive image restoration method was proposed. Firstly, by introducing dark channel for polarization images, sky regions are automatically segmented from the image, so the intensity and the degree of polarization of airlight can be acquired. Then, atmospheric light intensity information is extracted by polarization filtering, and used to optimize the degree of polarization of airlight by adopting the criteria of minimum normalized mutual information. After that, the distribution of atmospheric light intensity is repaired according to its change law. Finally, by removal of atmospheric light intensity, and compensation for attenuated effect of airlight, the scene radiation intensity information is recovered. Experimental results have shown that the proposed algorithm can alleviate the degradation of the image efficiently, and enhance the definition of the image.

    • Image quality assessment metrics based on human visual system

      摘要:Image quality assessment is important in the image processing field. The traditional methods (e.g. PSNR and MSE) only compute the error between the reference image and distorted image at the pixel-scale, so they cannot well reflect the visual quality of image. Aiming at the above problem, a novel image quality evaluation approach is proposed according to the human visual characteristics. It is obtained to mimic human visual system and utilize similarity measure methods. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed has a good consistency with the subjective assessment of human beings; thus it can be used to describe the visual perception of the image effectively.

    • Analysis and correction of the wavefront curvature error in bistatic PFA

      摘要:The polar format algorithm (PFA) for the bistatic spotlight-mode synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging is based on the planar wavefront assumption. As the unrealistic planar wavefront assumption introduces phase error terms in the focusing process, there will be space-variant geometry distortion and defocusing effect in the image focused via bistatic PFA. Hence, the focused scene size when using bistatic PFA is usually restricted severely to avoid the defocusing effect. Based on the expansion of the received signal’s phase term in bistatic SAR, the analytical expression of the wavefront curvature error in bistatic PFA is derived in our study. Based on the expression, the space-variant filtering and interpolation operation are applied to compensate for the defocusing effect and correct the geometry distortion in the image, respectively, which extends the focused scene size of bistatic PFA effectively. Point target simulation validates the algorithm.

    • Fast joint MRI segmentation through an adaptive active contour

      摘要:An adaptive active contour model-variational level set without re-initialization is proposed in this paper.We use local characteristics of image to implement adaptive curve evolution. Simultaneously, We add local C-V energy term and improve the edge stop function.These can increase the iterative convergence speed and make it more robust to the intensity distribution overlapping, intensity inhomogeneity and weak boundary. Combining with the characteristics of serial medical images, transform the segmentation result of current slice to piecewise constant function using the Heaviside function. Cast it to the next slice as the initial curve to implement automatic segmentation of serial images. The proposed method has been applied to segment normal structure and diseased tissue in musculoskeletal MRI with promising results.

    • Finger vein pattern extraction method using oriented filtering technology

      摘要:To extract finger vein features effectively and efficiently, a novel algorithm based on oriented filter for finger vein extraction is proposed. According to the characteristics of finger vein, the proposed algorithm generates a directional image of the finger vein image and a group of oriented filters, with which to filter the image depending on the orientation of the local ridge. Finally, finger vein feature is extracted from the enhanced image. Our method extends traditional image segmentation methods, by extracting vein object from the oriented filter enhanced image. Experimental results show that, apart from smoothness and continuity or removal of noise and pseudo-vein characteristics, the method proposed in this paper extracts vein features effectively not only from the high-quality images but also from the low-quality vein images.

      摘要:The 20dimensional feature vectors of intensity, texture and geometry characteristics for six kinds of steel strip surface typical defects images are extracted. The key technology of Rough Set theory is described. The decision table of the steel strip surface images recognition is created, the reduction for decision table is carried out, and the decision rules are obtained from the training sample images directly. The test samples of the steel surface defect images have been classified with application of decision rules, and then compare with the BP neural network algorithm. The recognition and classification of steel strip surface typical defects images based on rough set theory is effective.

    • Visual measurement system for traffic flow of inland waterway

      摘要:Acquiring traffic flow parameters of inland waterway is one key issue in developing intelligent inland waterway transport system. The paper proposes a method of vision measurement to acquire waterway traffic flow parameters. It uses vision sensors to capture panoramic view image of channel, extracts interested objects (ships), and establishes visual perception measurement model for acquiring geometric parameters of the ship under multi-view. A model which used CCD vision sensors to capture image information and broad knowledge-based sensors to fuse information is constructed and is used to compute water transport parameters, including the tonnage of ships, ship types, ship speed, occupancy rate of waterway, traffic density, the security state of ships, and other basic parameters of important waterway transport infrastructure, which serves as basis for traffic management, planning, and decision-making for waterway transport management sector. The results show that the system can obtain the traffic flow parameters of water access reliably, which meets the engineering requirements.

    • Visual attention model VAMAI for adult image detection

      摘要:Content-based adult image detection is an effective approach of filtering objectionable information proliferating on the Internet. However, the false positive is high for adult image detection based on global features; and the detection speed is low for adult image detection based on bag-of-visual-words (BoW) models. To detect adult images rapidly and accurately, we propose a novel method which includes three steps. First, we present VAMAI, the abbreviation of visual attention model for adult images, specialized in capturing the region of interest (ROI). VAMAI integrates saliency map model, skin-color model and face detection model to obtain ROI more precisely than ever before. Second, a codebook algorithm based on ROI and SURF (speeded up robust features) is proposed to improve the speed and the accuracy of BoW based adult image detection. Furthermore, we select color moments as the global feature after evaluating some commonly-used global features. Then we use “late fusion” to combine the results of color moments and BoW which are classified by supported vector machines. Experiments show that VAMAI is able to detect ROI precisely and our method can remarkably improve the performance of adult image detection in terms of speed and accuracy.

    • Graph geometry relation histogram and application in graph matching

      摘要:For graph structure the spectral features become instable in some non-rigid transform and other issues, a description of graph structure information based on geometry relation histogram is proposed in the paper and then the graph matching is implemented based on the histogram information. The algorithm firstly describes the position relation between vertex and edge by the angle and distance. Then a new description of the vertex feature based on the histogram is proposed. Finally, the algorithm implements the graph matching by improved Hungarian algorithm. Distinguishing from traditional approaches, it describes the graph structure by geometrical feature of the graph vertices and edges which is simple and abundant. The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm performs higher matching accuracy especially in the case of some perturbation.

    • Rapid scene registration method based on visual saliency

      摘要:Visual saliency is a type of visual feature simulating visual attention selection mechanism in biological system, and has better robustness and invariance. A rapid scene registration method based on visual saliency is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the method adopts amplitude modulation fourier transform to construct saliency map; then rough location,pre-selection and reliability order of salient points are achieved by analyzing the extremal properties and information richness of saliency feature; morphological operation is used for salient scene region growing and merging on the image. On this basis, SSIFT algorithm is proposed, which can largely reduce the computational cost of scene registration. University of Southern California scene dataset is used to test the presented method, the experimental results indicate that the method has good invariance under image scalings,rotations,translations and lighting variations. Compared with classical SIFT algorithm, the method works at higher speed and has higher recognition rate.

    • Algorithm of aerial optical image mosaicing based on platform parameters

      摘要:Mosaicing of aerial images is important to image intelligence analysis in military. In this paper , characteristic of aerial optical imaging and parameters of aerial platform are analyzed. Based on the principle of perspective projection model, the coordinate transform relationship between pixel coordinate and world coordinate is mainly deduced under oblique projection, and rough mosaicing regions of the two images are calculated under world coordinate, in this step, not much attention is paid to the accuracy. Then, SIFT algorithm is employed to extract invariable feature from the rough mosaicing regions, and calculate the transform model parameters of the two images accurately, in order to realize mosaicing refinedly. Experiments results of field images show that the algorithm is time efficient and fine-results in mosaicing.

    • Constructing contour tree and DEM construction of high fidelity

      摘要:How to generate contour tree of positive and negative topography from open contour lines,half-open contour lines and closed contour lines is proposed. Half-open contour lines and open contour lines are separated and handled respectively. Then a polygon overlay function is used to decide the spatial relation between closed contours, resulting in contour trees. Through navigating the tree of contour lines, height bounds for every grid in the research region can be deduced, which is then used with HASMROC(region optimum control) method to construct DEM of fidelity.The maximum deviation distance of derived contours is less than the width of the grid of the DEM. Two case studies are given, one is contours from mathematical surface, another is from the manually vectorizing contours lines.

      摘要:To resolve the problem that the traditional collision detection algorithm and spatial analysis operations in the virtual scene have bad real-time performance, a fast intersection detection algorithm named SpaceSweep for three-dimensional spatial objects is presented. Based on the distribution characters of spatial objects, the event points and their lists are constructed firstly. After that, by using the spatial sweeping strategy, a series of imaginary spatial sweeping planes are constructed adaptively. During the sweeping process, the state of the spatial objects is classified into death state, active state and sleeping state. Only spatial objects in the active state are used to conduct of the intersection testing. Therefore, many unnecessary intersection calculations are abstained, and the efficiency of the algorithm is improved. This algorithm improves the efficiency of intersection detection between the three-dimensional objects in the virtual scene, and provides strong technical support for real-time spatial analysis in 3D GIS. At last, the practicality of this algorithm is validated by comparing tests.

    • Improved GPU ray-casting for uniform grid

      摘要:Some problems exist in computing gradient, proxy polygon and pre-integration in GPU ray-casting for uniform grid and cracks may be easily produced in multi-block GPU ray-casting. To address these issues, improved GPU ray-casting for uniform grid is designed and implemented in this paper. Main improvements include an improved gradient computing method where that gradient is computed on need and on physical space and upper limit of gradient magnitude is evaluated, single pass GPU pre-integration, volume clipping method that is utilized to compute proxy polygon correctly and crack-free method for multi-block GPU ray-casting. Improved GPU ray-casting in this paper facilitates gradient magnitude modulation so that the interesting substances can be highlighted. It can compute pre-integration rapidly so that one can modify transfer function interactively and interesting features can be found quickly. Volume can be rendered correctly with it and one can peel the front thing and see the internal things. Crack is free when it renders multi-block dataset.

    • Novel video compression algorithm for multimedia sensor network

      摘要:Video compression can reduce the amount of data information in multimedia sensor networks. Traditional distributed video coding scheme that adopts regional unified coding may induce the distortion problem in decoding estimation of the intense motion region. This paper proposes an improved algorithm for DVC. The algorithm is based on image gradient field. The regions of the Wyner-Ziv frame that cannot be coded or decoded accurately are extracted according to the criteria of ROI and compressed with entropy coding. Other regions are encoded and decoded based on LDPC. The optimization of video transmission is achieved eventually. Simulation results show that: the proposed algorithm can enhance the encoding efficiency of the intense motion region; the algorithm can also reduce the rate and improve the quality of decoded image, and decrease the energy consumption of sensor nodes ultimately.

    • Target tracking based on mean shift with improved weights

      摘要:Aimed to solve the poor tracking accuracy problem of mean shift based on Bhattacharyya similarity, a novel weighting method is proposed based on the enhanced histogram intersection. The paper uses the ratio between the color components of the normalized color probability densities of the candidate model and that of the reference model as the weight coefficient. Results show that the new color weighting coefficient method has good adaptability under fast object moving or color similarity in scene, and the target tracking precision is enhanced effectively. In addition, a template updating method based on auxiliary model mechanism is used to solve the problems of camera vibration, illumination and object changing, therefore the cumulative error problem is also effectively alleviated. Through groups of contrast experiments, the new tracker shows its good adaptive ability and its robustness.

    • Remote sensing image de-noising based on local adaptive mixture model

      摘要:As a typical issue, the noise analysis and elimination of remote sensing images have attracted considerable attention, and become an important research field for remote sensing image processing. Although traditional de-noising methods can eliminate noises to some extent, the edges and details of image are usually blurred while eliminating noise. In addition, the classical P-M model cannot effectively remove the Gaussian noise near strong edges and details, while ROF model tends to produce fake edges even jaggies in smooth region. This paper proposes a local adaptive mixture model to address the issue. According to texture characteristics of an image’s local region, our model can adaptively adjust a weighting function. By this way, our model exploits the advantages of the P-M model in smooth local region, and the advantages of the ROF model in the region with rich textures or edges. This facilitates our model to effectively eliminate Gaussian noise, and at the same time well protect the edge features and details of remote sensing image. Experimental results show that our model gains 3dB and 2dB higher SNR than the P-M model and the ROF model do separately.

    • Gray-scale image colorization based on the control of single-parameter

      摘要:Gray-scale image colorization is a hot topic in both computer graphics and image processing. It can be widely applied in film and television production, digital photo editing, animation industry, etc. A great number of user interactions, which greatly reduces the efficiency of colorization, are involved in conventional methods to achieve clustering of the gray-scale image or the matching between the gray-scale image and the source image. This paper presents a novel gray-scale image colorization method based on the control of single-parameter. Firstly, colorization model based on the theory of analytic geometry is presented. Secondly, based on the linear regression method, we calculate the polynomial fitting model of the histograms of the source image and the gray-scale image respectively. After users input the order of the polynomials, the clustering and matching of the source image and the grayscale images could be achieved automatically. Finally, the colorization is realized by transferring the color of source image to its corresponding area of the gray-scale image. This method greatly eliminates the user interactions, making the process of colorization more convenient and efficient.

      摘要:Achieving high fidelity in the presence of expression variation remains one of the most challenging aspects of 3D face recognition. In this paper, we propose a novel recognition approach for robust and efficient matching. The framework is based on shape processing filters that divide face into three components according to its frequency spectra. Low-frequency band mainly corresponds to expression changes. High-frequency band represents noise. Mid-frequency band is selected for expression-invariant feature that contains most of the discriminative personal-specific deformation information. After bijectively mapping facial mesh into square domain based on mesh parametrization, we obtain 2D geometry image of 3D shape with linear interpolation for face matching. We conduct extensive experiments on FRGC v2 databases to verify the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, and validate that by using shape filter, it offers a performance improvement for both accuracy and robustness.

    • Image segmentation with PCNN model and maximum of variance ratio

      摘要:The Pulse Coupled Neural Network (PCNN) model is very suitable for image segmentation. With given parameters, the results of segmentation are determined only by the times of iteration. However, the PCNN model itself cannot automatically discover the optimal iteration times. Therefore, an algorithm based on the maximization of variance ratio criteria is proposed to solve this problem. The algorithm can automatically discover the best iteration times by applying the maximization of variance ratio criteria, and get the best segmentation results. Eventually, the Shannon entropy rule is used to check the segmentation results. The experimental results show that the algorithm can automatically discover the optimal iteration times, the segmentation results are satisfactory, and it improves the speed of PCNN iteration, and it is also more efficient than the automatic segmentation algorithm based 2D-OTSU and cross-entropy.

      摘要:Total variation (TV) regularization is an effective tool to resolve ill-posed problem in image restoration. But the TV only considers the first order variation with the higher order variations ignored. Furthermore, the form of TV induces a difficulty in optimization. Accordingly, a method of image restoration based on generalized TV (GTV) using MM algorithm is proposed to overcome the problems of TV. The GTV has not only the heavy tail property of TV, but also bilateral weights of bilateral TV (BTV). In fact, it is an extended form of the TV. For the optimization problem of GTV, we adopt the majorization-minimization (MM) algorithm to overcome its difficulty. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves effective performance with about 2dB ISNR (improvement of SNR).

    • Application of knowledge discovery in ancient mural exhibition

      摘要:By introducing attribute-oriented induction methodology (AOI) of data mining, this paper puts forward a new exhibition method for murals based on knowledge discovery. Retrieval results are organized according to the correlation dimension of murals for presentation of comparison, which is helpful for the researchers to acquire implicit knowledge and enlighten new association rules. We present a composition-based relevance ranking to display result images. The applications in Dunhuang mural demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.
