The methods of obtaining satellite snowcover information were described and discussed in this paper. The threshold value of snow was used for extracting snowcover information from NOAA/AVHRR images

and the Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI)was used for acquiring snowcover image from Landsat TM data. In order to derive more detail snowcover information

the matching technique of NOAA/AVHRR and TM images was also involved in the research. The results showed that the accuracy can be improved when the methods were used in the extraction of snowcover information from satellite images.
